ZKP RTV Slovenia in cooperation with Radio Slovenia - ARS programme celebrates the release of Kaleidoscope, Contemporary Works for Two Flutes and Piano by Slovenian and American Composers featuring flutists Matej Grahek and Nina Assimakopoulos and pianists Rikard Janjoš and Tadej Horvat. The album features world premiere recordings of new works by Črt Sojar Voglar's Little colourful fantasy, C. E. Jones's Nocturne and Reverie, Joseph Dangerfield's Color Schemes and Mathew Heap's An Infinite Shade of Lilac. The album is the result of  collaboration and friendship between internationally acclaimed American flutist Nina Assimakopoulos and Matej Grahek principal flutist of the Slovenian Philharmonic. Their work together has included trio concerts on international stages in both the United States and Slovenia and a body of new work commissions for two flutes and piano that celebrate the voices of living Slovenian and American composers.

Matej Grahek

Matej Grahek (1974, Slovenia) has been the principal flautist of the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra since 1997. He has been teaching at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet since 1999; and a year later, he became Assistant Professor at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. He was appointed as Associate Professor in 2017. Grahek completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Ljubljana’s Academy of Music under the instruction of professor Fedja Rupel, while spending two years improving his skills in a class led by the world-renowned flautist Irena Grafenauer at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

Nina Assimakopoulos

Internationally acclaimed flutist Nina Assimakopoulos is an integrative performing artist whose work encompasses both traditional and exploratory forms of flute performance, combining music with movement, the visual arts and storytelling. A prominent voice in the world of contemporary flute performance, Assimakopoulos has commissioned and premiered over 100 works for flute and recorded 5 solo CDs, the most recent of which, Vāyu: Multi-cultural Flute Solos from the Twenty-First Century (AMP Recordings) was selected in to the first round of the Grammy nominations for Best Classical Solo Instrumental.

Rikardo Janjoš

In 2018, Rikardo Janjoš finished his piano studies at the Academy of Music with Professor Jasminka Stančul. During his studies, Janjoš performed in the hall of the Slovenian Philharmonic as part of the With Piano Concert Cycle of the Musical Youth of Ljubljana. In 2019, he performed Saint-Saëns' Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 5 in F Major, Op. 103 as a soloist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. Janjoš currently teaches piano and introduction to music at the Edgar Willems Music Center in Ljubljana and is also completing the training program for the Willems Pedagogical Diploma.

Tadej Horvat

In 2005, pianist Tadej Horvat graduated with honors from the Ljubljana Academy of Music with Professor Dubravke Tomšič Srebotnjak, and in June 2007 he completed specialist studies with Professor Alexander Madžar. In recent years, Horvat has been working with established Slovenian musicians in Slovenia and abroad. He is currently employed as an accompanist and piano professor at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana and collaborates with the Academy of Music as a professional associate.
